June 5-9, 10am - 4pm
Combining somatics, Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis, improvisation, composition and other strategies, Kara Davis and Katie Faulkner will lead a 4-day workshop offering movement practices intended to disrupt habitual tendencies, allow new creativity to emerge, and deepen creative connection with others.
The workshop experience will move fluidly between the somatic and analytic framework of Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis, a system that enlivens functional efficiency as well as personal expressivity with Mother Tongue, the improvisation-to-composition practice developed by Kara Davis. We will also explore numerous other strategies related to the cultivation of meaningful relationships between physical intuition and outer form. In addition to individual explorations designed to sensitize one to inner sensation and personal affinities, participants will engage in a range of structured improvisations designed to enhance consensus in the compositional decision making process. Uniting the range of modalities offered in this workshop is the belief that our inner and outer experiences of our world and ourselves are interrelated and fluid, the acknowledgement of which can aide in a more embodied and enlivened creative practice.
Open to all movers.
The week culminates with an open showing on Friday, June 9.
