Contemporary Choreography & Performance Workshop

When: Sundays from 1:00-2:30 Where: Alonzo King’s LINES Dance Center, 26 7th Street, San Francisco Sign Up: $210 ($225 after Feb 25, 2019)

Experience firsthand the creative process of making a new choreographic work that will culminate into a final public performance during Bay Area Dance Week. In this workshop, choreographer Kara Davis will lead the students to explore the kinetic intelligence at work in the interplay between improvisation and composition. We will focus on developing technical skills and performance abilities in a

safe and creative environment. Dancers will also explore strategies to mine meaning from the tension between physical intuition and outer form. The movement practices offered and the choreographic prompts that will be given are intended to disrupt habitual tendencies, allow new creativity to emerge, and deepen one’s sense of energetic/physical connection to others. All levels are welcome, students must be willing to learn new skills as well as open to do improvisation and partnering work.
